Trump Again Demands Sovereignty Over Greenland

Ankara: US President Donald Trump insisted that the United States should control Greenland, not its NATO ally Denmark. Trump asserted that the semi-autonomous island is an important part of the United States. He reiterated his claim that the island is surrounded by Chinese and Russian ships and said he would not allow Greenland to be threatened by those countries. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump spoke to reporters after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presidential palace in Ankara. He emphasized, "It should be controlled by the United States, not Denmark." Separately, Trump announced that the United States would lift sanctions on Turkey that were intended to punish Ankara for purchasing a Russian missile system, which led to the country's exclusion from the F-35 fighter jet program. This move was seen as a sign of his good relations with Erdogan, who is hosting the summit.
