Turkey: Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) affirmed on Wednesday that the integration of the Sinjar Resistance Forces under the authority of the Iraqi government is of utmost importance. The party indicated that the Turkish government supports the stance of Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi regarding the principle that no party should possess weapons outside of government forces.

He added, “As stated by the Iraqi Prime Minister, it is crucial that no party other than government forces possesses weapons, that all such armed groups be brought under state authority through a unified command, and that the government takes measures to protect the rights, legal interests, and security of the local population.”

Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Falih Al-Zaidi had previously announced that the Sinjar Resistance factions would begin handing over their weapons to the state. He emphasized that restricting arms to state control and unifying security decision-making are fundamental to protecting the district’s residents, consolidating its stability, and securing its future.
