Baghdad: The Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Unal Ustl, has announced the rescue of 237 people following the sinking of a ship in the Mediterranean Sea, which also resulted in the death of 7 individuals. The ship was carrying a total of 267 people from a Cypriot port to Mersin in southern Turkey when the incident occurred.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ustl stated at a press conference that the Turkish Cypriot authorities have mobilized all available resources to search for the 23 individuals still missing. A crisis room has been established to manage the aftermath of the incident, highlighting the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the situation.

Ustl further mentioned that numerous teams are actively participating in the search and rescue operations. The injured individuals who were rescued from the sea have been transported to hospitals for medical treatment. The ship, owned by a private company, departed from the Cypriot port of Girne and was en route to the port of Tasucu in Mersin province, southern Turkey, carrying 259 passengers and 8 crew members.
