Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized the urgent need to eliminate the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to serve the interests of Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and the Kurdish people.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan discussed in an interview with TRT World the ongoing challenges faced by the new administration in Syria, noting that ending the occupation by the PKK/YPG is a key priority. He asserted that the PKK is a multi-purpose terrorist organization affecting not only Turkey but also Iran, Iraq, and Syria, calling for a collective effort to eradicate this threat.

Fidan highlighted the importance of regional collaboration to prevent the resurgence of ISIS, suggesting that a platform for regional countries to discuss terrorism issues could be beneficial. He criticized past interventions aimed at solving terrorism, which have led to additional problems, and emphasized the necessity of regional ownership to address these issues effectively.

Regarding the situation in Gaza, Fidan expressed concerns about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s intentions to resume hostilities once all hostages are reclaimed, citing a lack of international pressure to maintain peace. He urged US President Donald Trump to take responsibility and prevent further conflict, emphasizing that Trump’s anti-war campaign promises depend on these actions. Fidan remains hopeful that negotiators can finalize the details needed to advance the ceasefire agreement.
