Balikesir: Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that no casualties were recorded as a result of the earthquake that struck the Sundargi district of Balikesir province in western Turkey at midnight last night.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Yerlikaya stated on the Turkish “In Social” platform that he received 25 reports regarding damage to buildings caused by the earthquake in Balikesir. In response to the situation, mosques, gyms, and schools in the area have opened their doors to shelter citizens affected by the earthquake.

The earthquake, which was a 6.1-magnitude event, led to the suspension of education throughout Balikesir province for one day as a precaution against potential aftershocks. The Turkish Interior Minister emphasized this measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Additionally, data from the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) revealed that the earthquake was at a depth of 5.99 kilometers. It was felt by residents not only in Balikesir but also in Istanbul, Izmir, and several other provinces in the Marmara and Aegean regions, highlighting the widespread impact of the seismic activity.
