Istanbul: The Turkish Journalists Union, the Turkish Writers Union, and the Turkish Publishers Union organized a conference today in Istanbul dedicated to exposing the criminal practices carried out by the Zionist entity against Palestinian journalists.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Sinan Burhan, Head of the Turkish Journalists Union, emphasized that Israel is committing massacres to silence journalists from telling the truth about the crimes committed against the Palestinian people, including children, women, and the elderly, including the demolition of homes and the crimes of starvation.
He pointed out that when Israeli forces targeted the journalists’ tent in Gaza last Sunday, they were aware of the journalists inside, believing that such crimes would obscure the evidence of their crimes from the public’s ears and sight. The crime resulted in the killing of six Palestinian journalists, bringing the number of victims of Israeli crimes since October 7, 2023, to 238 journalists in the Gaza Strip alone.
He emphasized that the right to protect journalists working in areas of armed conflict around the world is of paramount importance in terms of human rights, international law, and the public’s right to access information.
Burhan said, “We are here to say enough to this massacre. The entire world stands as if blind and deaf. Unfortunately, the Islamic world, the West, and the United Nations are silent. All universal values are being trampled on. Humanity, rights, and justice are dead.” Only the conscience of humanity stands tall.”
He pointed out the need for the Islamic world to stand united in the face of Israeli crimes.
The conference participants called on the international community to prevent Israel from continuing to target journalists and to allow the international press, which is banned by the Israeli authorities, to operate inside the Gaza Strip to document what is happening and to make the world fully aware of this criminal series.
A number of members of the Turkish Journalists Union headed to the Israeli embassy in the capital, Ankara, to protest the Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip and the targeting of journalists covering them.
The union members raised Palestinian flags, pictures of journalists killed in Gaza, and banners bearing the slogans “Criminal Israel and the complicit United States,” “Close the UN,” and “Say Enough for the children.”
