Baghdad: The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the killing of 9 militants of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in airstrikes carried out by Turkish warplanes in northern Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Defense Ministry stated in a statement today, Saturday, that one of the Turkish army units stationed in the Asos region in northern Iraq detected gatherings of PKK militants in that mountainous area, so it used warplanes and launched a series of airstrikes that resulted in the killing of 9 militants of the organization and the escape of others from those areas.

The Turkish Defense Ministry indicated in its statement that the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is based in the Qandil Mountains in northern Iraq, and is active in many cities, regions and valleys, and launches attacks on the Turkish interior from there, and that the Turkish army is working hard to dry up the sources of terrorism.
