Baghdad: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Research Affairs announced the inclusion of two Iraqi universities in the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS 2026).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Haider Abdul Dhahd, stated that the inclusion of these universities marks a significant academic achievement, reflecting the ongoing efforts to elevate the standing of Iraqi institutions on the international academic stage. This achievement is seen as the result of a strategic vision aimed at enhancing quality, excellence, and global competitiveness within Iraqi universities.

Haider Abdul Dhahd highlighted that this accomplishment is a practical translation of the concerted efforts made by university leaders, faculty members, and researchers to build robust academic institutions capable of competing internationally. The GRAS 2026 ranking recognized Al-Ain University in the field of Engineering/Water Resources and Warith Al-Anbiya University in Energy Science and Engineering.

The Undersecretary further explained that the GRAS 2026 ranking is based on nine scientific and academic indicators, with data sourced from the Web of Science/Clarivate website, renowned for its reliability. He emphasized the importance of sustaining research and academic endeavors to further enhance the global presence of Iraqi universities.
