UNESCO Commends Iraq’s Commitment to Heritage Conservation


Seoul: UNESCO welcomed the efforts undertaken by Iraq in conducting surveys, documentation, assessments, planning, and ongoing conservation work in the city of Samarra.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, during its 48th session, held in the South Korean capital, the organization also welcomed the conservation reports prepared for the Al-Ma’shouq Palace, the Abu Dulaf Mosque, and the Crusader Dome, as well as the measures taken in this regard.



UNESCO acknowledged Iraq’s efforts in implementing previous decisions, including corrective measures, for the Hatra site as a World Heritage Site. It also called for the preparation of a proposal for a minor boundary adjustment to define the site’s buffer zone.
