Baghdad: The University of Basra celebrated the honoring of a select group of its professors who have achieved a significant accomplishment for the university in international forums and major global scientific journals. The ceremony was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Scientific Research Affairs, Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd, the President of the University of Basra, several university presidents, deans of colleges, and members of the Basra Governorate Council, including Dr. Aqeel Al-Fariji and Sarah Al-Husseini.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education highlighted the contributions of the University of Basra, noting its historical significance and ongoing impact on Iraqi scholarship. He emphasized the university’s foundation in 1964 as a continuation of Basra’s rich cultural legacy. The Deputy Minister praised the university’s scholars and researchers, acknowledging their role in maintaining Basra’s status as a center of culture, art, and literature.
The President of the University of Basra, Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahhan, expressed his gratitude for the Ministry of Higher Education’s recognition of the university’s scholars. He noted the university’s contributions to various departments and institutions, and its role in establishing universities in neighboring provinces. Dr. Al-Dahhan acknowledged the honorees’ achievements in international forums and prestigious scientific journals, emphasizing their distinction in global scientific rankings and citation rates.
