US President Imposes New Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum Imports

Washington: US President Donald Trump has signed two executive orders that impose 25% tariffs on US imports of steel and aluminum.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump announced the decision while signing multiple executive orders at the White House, emphasizing his intent to protect and revitalize the domestic steel and aluminum industries. Trump expressed that these measures are designed to boost job creation within the United States by encouraging companies to operate domestically.

The President highlighted that there would be no tariffs on goods manufactured in the United States, suggesting that the new tariffs would result in significant savings for the country. During Trump’s first term, he imposed similar tariffs but granted partial exemptions to several trading partners by providing exempt quotas. However, Trump has made it clear that in his second term, no such exemptions will be entertained, reinforcing his commitment to strengthening US industries.
