US Secret Service Revises Protocols After Threats During Trump Rallies

Baghdad: The US Secret Service has released a report detailing lapses in security protocols related to rallies that posed threats to former President Donald Trump’s life. A government audit highlighted that until an assassination attempt in 2014, the agency did not consider civilian marches a significant threat to senior officials. The attack’s planning involved a march, prompting changes in security measures thereafter.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the report outlines several similar incidents the agency has handled since 2015. Notably, a march approached Barack Obama’s motorcade in Hawaii, and another incident involved a march flying approximately 60 meters above a Bernie Sanders rally in 2016. Additionally, several marches were observed during Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021.

The audit also revealed that 8 out of 22 security protocols had not been reviewed on schedule. These protocols are mandated to be updated every four years, yet the international travel security protocol for the
Vice President has remained unchanged since July 2001.
