Gaza: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that more than half a million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are on the brink of famine, stressing that a ceasefire is the only way to expand humanitarian aid and ensure it reaches the besieged population.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the UN agency explained that the aid currently reaching Gaza remains far below the required levels, amounting to only 47% of the daily target. It emphasized that resuming distribution operations, providing hot meals, and operating bakeries would require a significant increase in humanitarian assistance.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that more than one million women and girls in Gaza are facing the risk of “mass famine” due to the ongoing Israeli blockade and military operations since October 7, 2023.
