Baghdad: Younis Mahmoud, the head of the Iraqi Football Association, has explained the reasoning behind Muntadhar Majid’s choice to not represent the national team. Mahmoud clarified that Majid’s decision is rooted in personal feelings rather than an apology for not joining the national ranks. Instead, the player desires to concentrate on his club commitments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mahmoud stressed the presence of many skilled players within the Iraqi national team. He assured that all players who represent the country will receive unwavering support. Mahmoud highlighted ongoing efforts, mentioning, “We have made numerous contacts with several players in Europe, and we have talented players with great potential.”

He further elaborated on the future prospects of Iraqi football, expressing optimism about the development of players over the next five years. Mahmoud anticipates seeing Iraqi talents playing at a high level with major clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, as well as in leagues such as the Austrian league.
