Sulaymaniyah - Chairman of Jemaah Islamiyah of Kurdistan, (JI) Ali Babir said the date of the referendum was not decided by a binding official authority, because the date was set at a party meeting headed by Massoud Barzani and some of harmonious parties.
Babir told reporters that "The question of the referendum is a preliminary step for independence, and this is normal and legitimate, but the (JI) and some major parties have observations on the atmosphere in which the referendum will take place, especially with regard to the timing and atmosphere surrounding it," he added that the (JI) does not want to repeat the experience of the Republic of Mahabad, which was announced by Judge Mohammed in the 1940s.
"The date of the referendum was not decided by a binding official authority, because the date was set at a party meeting headed by Massoud Barzani and some parties that were in harmony with this meeting, at a time when there must be harmony and internal understanding at the level of the region to hold the referendum "He said, adding that harmony between the Kurdish parties is now lacking.
He also explained: "The region suffers from deteriorating economic and political conditions, and there is a disintegrated social situation, and a tense security situation, and there is a regional atmosphere must be carefully studied, and all these things must be resolved before the referendum.
