IRAQI FORCES REPEL DAESH COUNTERATTACKS NEAR MOSUL

IRBIL, Iraq, The so-called Daesh militants, launched two counterattacks on the Iraqi forces, after suffering dozens of fatalities, in the northern and the southern parts of Mosul city, Nineveh governorate, on Wednesday.

Unit 16 of Brigade 76, of the Iraqi forces, backed by anti-Daesh international coalition air power, managed to repel a Daesh attack in northern Mosul, destroyed five vehicles and killed more than 40 of the 60 Daesh attackers, said commander of Nineveh operations, Lt-Gen. Abdul-Amir Rashid Yarallah, in a press release.

The Daesh terrorists attacked the federal police in the two villages of Al-Athbah and Bakhira, south of Mosul, but the Iraqi forces were able to kill 12 Daesh terrorists and destroy three vehicles, he pointed out.

The military forces launched a manhunt in northern Mosul, where they found two explosive making workshops, seven mortar 120 mm. shells and a ready-to-use explosive belt, he added.

During the fight for Mosul, jointly launched by the Iraqi federal army and police, the Kurdish Peshmerga and the US-led Coalition, on Oct 17, 46 neighbourhoods, representing 44 percent of Mosul area, were recaptured from the Daesh.
