Sulaymaniyah: Around 30 people were injured in a massive fire that broke out at a fuel facility in Iraq’s northern Sulaymaniyah province, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing local media.
According to Nam News Network, Aram Ali, spokesman for the Sulaymaniyah Civil Defence Directorate, stated that the fire erupted at a complex used to store petroleum products in the Tanjaro area, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). He confirmed that civil defence teams quickly responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.
Sulaymaniyah Deputy Governor Shaho Osman assured citizens that the fire had been completely controlled and that there is no impact on the quantities of fuel and petroleum products supplied in the province. These remarks were carried by local news outlet Shafaq News.
Brig Gen Ari Mohammed, Director of Sulaymaniyah Civil Defence, reported that four firefighters sustained injuries and received treatment at the scene. The fire, which broke out after midnight, was accompanied by explosions in tanks containing highly flammable materials. Security forces cordoned off the area and diverted traffic away from the site, according to local media.
Shafaq News reported that the fire left around 30 people with burns of varying severity, most of whom were workers and site crew members. While most of the injured received first aid and were discharged from the hospital, an Iranian worker remained under medical care due to the severity of his injuries.
