BAGHDAD: The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, has posthumously awarded the rank of police lieutenant to students from the police college who died in a traffic accident on the road between Baghdad and Diyala.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the decision was announced by Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, the spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and the Security Media Cell. Miri stated that the promotion was based on a proposal by the Minister of Interior and grants the deceased students, who perished in the accident, the rank of police lieutenant along with all other rights provided by law.
A security source reported that the tragic incident took place last Friday evening when three vehicles collided on the Baghdad-Diyala road near the New Shatt district, southwest of Baqubah, the center of Diyala Governorate. The crash resulted in the deaths of three students and injuries to five others. All the victims were students from the Police College and the Military College and
hailed from the Jalawla district.
