Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission has successfully recovered the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a Ministry of Transport company from Kuwait. The individual had been sentenced in absentia to prison for causing harm to state funds.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission’s recovery department, in collaboration with the Public Prosecution, the Arab and International Police Directorate, and the Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait, facilitated the extradition of Muhammad Abdul Hussein Jaafar. Jaafar was apprehended in Kuwait and returned to Iraq to face justice.
The Authority detailed that in 2010, while working at the Iraqi Land Transport Company alongside his brothers, Jaafar compromised the company’s funds. This was achieved by opening a bank account and depositing company money, which was later used to secure personal loans for the board members, including Jaafar, amounting to an estimated 5-6 billion dinars. Subsequently, the Central Bank of Iraq and the National Insurance Company seized the account due to debts.
The Authority further explained that the Criminal Court, along with a court specializing in integrity cases, had previously sentenced Jaafar to seven years in prison under Article 340 of the Penal Code. This decision came after a thorough review of evidence deemed sufficient to convict him.
