Basra: Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated today, Thursday, the suspended bridge over Shatt Al-Arab in Basra Governorate, emphasizing that infrastructure projects in the province are a cornerstone for supporting economic development and creating job opportunities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister's media office said the new bridge connects the highway leading to Basra International Airport with the Basra Sports City and extends for 825 meters. Its central height reaches 35 meters, allowing ships to pass underneath, while the total cost, including approach roads, amounted to approximately 53 billion Iraqi dinars.

Al-Sudani stressed the government's commitment to implementing vital and service projects in Basra, noting that completing infrastructure is fundamental to achieving the goals of the governmental program, particularly in development and employment.

The bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion in the city center, reduce pressure on internal road networks, and enhance trade movement with neighboring countries. It is considered one of the key infrastructure projects and will also stand out as a new architectural and touristic landmark in Basra.
