President of Republic Discusses International Developments and Bilateral Ties with Portuguese Counterpart

New york: President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at dawn on Wednesday, as part of his participation in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a presidential statement noted that the meeting centered around international developments and bilateral relations between Iraq and Portugal. President Rashid emphasized that Iraq's policy is focused on openness and strengthening cooperation with countries worldwide to promote regional and international stability and benefit peoples' interests.

The President also acknowledged Portugal's supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and highlighted the importance of ongoing coordination in international forums to support Palestinian rights and end aggression against them.

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in turn, conveyed his country's appreciation for its relationship with Iraq and expressed a desire to expand bilateral cooperation, including supporting Iraq's reconstruction efforts.
