Dawa Party Removes Maliki’s Premiership Nomination from Website


Baghdad: The official website of the Islamic Dawa Party removed its statement nominating its Secretary-General, Nouri al-Maliki, for the premiership on Saturday evening.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Islamic Dawa Party’s Shura Council had unanimously decided to nominate Secretary-General Nouri al-Maliki as the party’s official candidate for Prime Minister. This decision was initially published on the party’s official website earlier on Saturday morning.



This development followed Nouri al-Maliki’s visit to Erbil on Saturday morning. During his visit, he met with Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to discuss the political situation and the requirements for forming the next government.
