Cairo: The Head of the Arab League’s mission to monitor the 2025 Iraqi elections, Ambassador Faed Mustafa, affirmed that the Iraqi elections represent a unique democratic experience in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo indicated that “the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, met with the Assistant Secretary-General – Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector and Head of the Arab League’s mission to observe the 2025 Iraqi parliamentary elections, Ambassador Faed Mustafa, at the League’s headquarters.”

The statement continued, “The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Assistant Secretary-General and the League’s delegation that visited Iraq and observed the recent elections,” adding, “He also expressed his appreciation for the report issued by the observation mission, which reflects the integrity of the electoral process.”

The statement further explained that “the Assistant Secretary-General, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s efforts in the thorough preparation for the parliamentary elections and the use of biometric devices,” emphasizing that “this strengthened voters’ confidence in the democratic process, which he described as a unique experience in the region.”

The statement also noted that “the Palestinian issue was discussed during the meeting, along with the events unfolding in Palestine and the region. Both sides affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the right of its people to live in freedom and dignity. The Permanent Representative reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for Palestine in all areas.”
