Basra: Employees of the General Company for Iraqi Ports held a protest this morning in front of the company headquarters to express their rejection of the organized campaign targeting the company, its management, and its expertise. This campaign has targeted its vital projects, most notably the Grand Faw Port, the submerged tunnel, and the new navigation channel.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the employees issued a statement explaining that the attacks against the company do not constitute legitimate criticism but are instead a clear attempt to disrupt a national institution that is over 100 years old. They highlighted Basra as the beating heart of Iraq and a fundamental pillar of the national economy.
The statement emphasized that the achievements made, which included raising revenues to record levels and developing port infrastructure, will continue despite all the campaigns and pressures. The employees affirmed that their will is unwavering and that the ports will remain protectors of the state’s interests and national sovereignty.
