A Direct International Shipping Line Established Between UAE’s Rashid Port and Iraq’s Umm Qasr

Dubai: The General Company for Iraqi Ports has announced the launch of a direct sea transport service between Rashid Port in Dubai and Umm Qasr Port, initiated by DP World through the “DP World Express” roll-on/roll-off vessel. This new service operates on a sea route with a transit time of no more than 36 hours and can accommodate 145 trailer cars on each trip.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the company emphasized that “this new service is a significant addition to Iraq’s ports’ capabilities in handling roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) cargo, as well as developing fast maritime transport options.” The statement also highlighted that the new line will help reduce reliance on land transport, speed up the arrival of goods, and provide direct solutions for transporting trailer cars with accompanying drivers.

The company further stated that it is working on preparing Umm Qasr Port to ensure smooth service operation. It also noted that the new line will support bilateral trade between Iraq and the UAE, enhance
the efficiency of regional supply chains, and increase the competitiveness of Iraqi ports.

The statement pointed out that “the growing demand for direct transport services for trailer cars reflects the Iraqi market’s need for faster and more precise routes.” It also highlighted that the launch of this service is part of a broader strategy to adopt sustainable logistical solutions that contribute to reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional transport methods.

The statement concluded by confirming that the General Company for Iraqi Ports will continue to enhance its infrastructure and expand regional partnerships to meet increasing demand and strengthen Iraq’s role in regional and international trade.
