All Official Celebrations In Sulaymaniyah Suspended For This Reason

Sulaimaniyah: Sulaimaniyah Governor Haval Abubakr announced on Sunday the suspension of all official celebrations within the governorate. In a statement, the governor explained that the decision was made “in light of the disasters and unfortunate events that occurred in Chamchamal district and Karmian Autonomous Administration, which resulted in fatalities, injuries, and significant damage.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the governor added that “the decision stems from a sense of support and solidarity with everyone,” emphasizing that no official celebrations will be held at this time within Sulaimaniyah governorate.

On December 7, 2025, a wave of torrential rains swept through the Kurdistan Region and continued for three days, causing flooding in several areas and resulting in the deaths of five people. Chamchamal district and surrounding areas suffered extensive damage, with more than 1,000 homes and 12 schools affected.
