Hilla: Dozens of residents from the village of Barnoun near Hillah staged a demonstration today, blocking the main road connecting Babylon and Karbala. The protest was against the local government’s decision to demolish their homes following a court ruling in Hillah that classified the village as part of the ancient city’s boundaries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the residents demanded that the court reconsider its decision to demolish the structures deemed as encroachments. The demonstrators are seeking either the reversal of the demolition order or compensation in the form of alternative land.
