Malatya: Turkish intelligence announced the arrest of Ibrahim Portakocin, a terrorist affiliated with ISIS, who was preparing to carry out an attack during New Year’s celebrations. The arrest took place in an operation in Malatya province in eastern Turkey.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, sources in Turkish intelligence stated that their efforts revealed Portakocin was working within Turkey for the ISIS terrorist organization and was seeking to travel to conflict zones to join its ranks whenever the opportunity arose. It was also discovered that he was planning a terrorist attack during the New Year’s celebrations.
The sources added that the terrorist was in contact with numerous ISIS supporters both inside and outside the country. The sources explained that his location was pinpointed through meticulous and sensitive efforts by Turkish intelligence, in coordination with the General Directorate of Security. A joint operation was then conducted, resulting in his arrest in Malatya province.
During the operation, security authorities seized digital materials and prohibited publications belonging to the suspect and the organization.
