Baghdad: Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, affirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces with advanced and modern weapons and equipment.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani sponsored the graduation ceremony for the 89th qualifying course for students of the Fourth Military College, marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi Army. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Ministers of Defense and Interior, military leaders, and diplomatic representatives.

During the ceremony, graduating students paraded before the Commander-in-Chief, and the Air Force showcased an air show over Baghdad. In his address, Al-Sudani highlighted the army’s vital role in national defense and its support for Arab nations, particularly in the context of Palestine. He emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance military capabilities and outlined plans for the Iraqi National Security Strategy for 2025-2030.

Al-Sudani detailed initiatives to provide residential land for Ministry of Defense personnel and addressed past challenges faced by the military under previous regimes. He praised the army’s role in combating ISIS and reaffirmed Iraq’s sovereignty, mentioning the end of the international coalition’s mission and the cessation of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining security and ensuring that weapons remain under state control. He also emphasized support for the families of martyrs and the wounded. Concluding his remarks, Al-Sudani urged the armed forces to remain vigilant amidst regional instability.
