Baghdad:Iraq ranked 28th globally among the 30 countries listed in terms of foreign currency reserves, holding approximately $85 billion.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ranking was published by the Canadian website Visual Capitalist, based on the latest available data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Iraq ranked behind France, which has $86 billion in reserves, and ahead of Romania, with $78.2 billion. Turkey was at the bottom of the list with $76.6 billion.
China led the global ranking with $3.41 trillion in reserves, followed by Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, and India. In the Arab world, Saudi Arabia was ranked sixth globally, and the United Arab Emirates was 12th. Iraq was third among Arab countries in the list of the world’s largest foreign currency reserve holders.
The report emphasized the importance of foreign currency reserves in managing economic stability, currency support, import financing, and external debt servicing. It was noted that the classification excludes gold and is based on data from mid-2025 to the second quarter of 2026.
