Cairo: Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Al-Mubarraq affirmed Iraq’s unwavering support for the Palestinian and Lebanese causes. While handing over the presidency of the 48th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports, he emphasized that respect for state sovereignty is the foundation of regional security and stability.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his address at the opening of the 49th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Al-Mubarraq said, “It is an honor for me today, as I hand over the presidency of the 48th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports, which Iraq hosted and implemented with a strong Arab spirit, to express our pride in the achievements and constructive cooperation that have been realized, reflecting the Arab states’ commitment to advancing the youth and sports sectors and strengthening their role in sustainable development.”
He added, “The previous session was a significant milestone in implementing resolutions, developing joint action mechanisms, and launching impactful programs aimed at empowering Arab youth and instilling the values of citizenship.” He expressed his gratitude to the member states that implemented the adopted programs and initiatives and contributed to translating the recommendations into tangible reality.
Al-Mubarraq reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for just Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian and Lebanese causes, condemning in the strongest terms the brutal Zionist aggression and the accompanying grave violations targeting civilians, educational institutions, and youth centers.
The Minister of Youth stressed the necessity of the immediate and practical implementation of resolutions aimed at supporting the youth of both countries and bolstering their resilience. He pointed out that respect for the sovereignty of states and adherence to international law are fundamental to regional stability and security, and to protecting the future of Arab youth. He added that any violation of sovereignty or international law directly impacts the security of societies and development opportunities.
In closing, he emphasized that youth are the cornerstone of sustainable development, and that investing in human capital is the most effective and impactful approach. This underscores the importance of utilizing sports as an effective tool for education, fostering discipline, teamwork, tolerance, and building social peace.
