Baghdad: Parliamentary and political circles circulated news this afternoon, Monday, that the current President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, has withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency, ahead of the election session scheduled for tomorrow morning, Tuesday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Rashid had submitted his candidacy file for a new presidential term to the Legal Department of the General Secretariat of the House of Representatives, as a personal candidate, coinciding with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s decision to officially nominate Nizar Amidi for the position.
