Baghdad: The Sadiqun bloc demands that the government take decisive international action to protect Iraq’s sovereignty. The Sadiqun parliamentary bloc condemned the targeting of Iraqi security forces, including the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces, asserting that these attacks constitute a serious violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and a clear breach of international law and agreements signed with the Iraqi government.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, bloc leader MP Uday Awad stated in a press conference that targeting security forces is a blatant act of aggression and an attempt to transform Iraqi territory into an open arena for military strikes and settling regional and international scores, which is unacceptable. He added that “merely issuing statements of condemnation is no longer sufficient given the repeated nature of these attacks,” emphasizing the need to translate the principle of Iraqi sovereignty into concrete actions and positions on the ground.
Awad called on the Iraqi government to take decisive and practical steps to protect national sovereignty and prevent the recurrence of such violations, in addition to pursuing diplomatic and legal action at the international level to hold those responsible for this aggression accountable. He also called on the Council of Representatives to take a clear stance, both legislatively and in its oversight role, to preserve the dignity of the Iraqi state and protect the lives of its citizens, emphasizing that “Iraq is a fully sovereign state and will not accept being an open arena for any aggression.”
Awad warned that “the continuation of these violations could lead to a dangerous escalation that threatens Iraq’s security and the stability of the region,” reiterating that defending Iraq’s sovereignty is a national responsibility that cannot be compromised.
