Amman: The Ministry of Justice announced the recovery of more than $1.7 million in public funds in Jordan from a fugitive convict who had been found guilty of embezzling state funds and abusing his official position.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, this achievement was the result of diligent legal follow-up by the Directorate of Foreign Claims at the Ministry of Justice, through the management of the case filed before the Amman Court of First Instance in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The aim was to obtain enforcement of the judgments issued by the Iraqi courts in accordance with established legal frameworks, by providing the case’s lawyers with documents and evidence that strengthened Iraq’s legal position and proved its right to recover the funds.
The Amman Court of First Instance issued its final decision, granting enforcement of the two judgments issued by the Baghdad/Karkh Court of First Instance, and making the decision final. This paves the way for initiating enforcement procedures against the seized movable and immovable assets in preparation for their return to Iraq in accordance with applicable Jordanian laws.
