Atroushi Urges Enhanced Democracy and Oversight to Combat Corruption


Baghdad: On International Parliamentary Day, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Farhad Amin Atroushi called for strengthening democracy and activating the oversight role to combat corruption and protect public funds.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Deputy Speaker’s media office stated that in celebration of the International Day of Parliamentarism, which falls on June 30th each year, and the anniversary of the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Atroushi reiterated the call to strengthen democracy, safeguard freedoms, support representatives of the people in performing their duties, and activate the oversight role to combat financial and administrative corruption, protect public funds, and bring those involved in corruption to justice. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the participation of all segments of society in decision-making and protecting human rights.



On this occasion, Atroushi emphasized the pivotal role of the legislative institution and its continued commitment to fulfilling its national and constitutional responsibilities in building the future, leading the roadmap towards positive change, and enacting effective legislation and laws to achieve social justice, sustainable development, and provide a safe and stable environment for future generations.
