Ministry of Housing and Construction Addresses Contractor Payment Issues


Baghdad: The Ministry of Housing and Construction is currently reviewing outstanding payments owed to contractors involved in its projects. Acting Minister of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities, Fuad Hussein, chaired a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters to address these financial concerns.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting brought together key government officials and stakeholders, including Ahmed Al-Fatlawi, Head of the Higher Committee for Coordination between Governorates; Azhar Hussein, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Administrative and Technical Affairs; Muayyad Al-Saadi, the Prime Minister’s Advisor; alongside undersecretaries, advisors, directors general from the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities, the head of the Iraqi Contractors Union, and several contractors.



The minister reviewed the financial situation and the government’s plans to enhance financial stability, ensuring the continued implementation of development projects. Discussion topics included the financial progress of projects in roads, bridges, water, sewage, municipalities, and housing sectors.



The minister emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation and coordination between the government and the private sector to address financial challenges, ensure the continued implementation of vital projects, and achieve development goals. A working group was formed, led by the ministry’s technical undersecretary and involving directors general and representatives from the Iraqi Contractors Union, tasked with monitoring and reviewing project contract terms. The group is expected to complete its work within a week.
