Baghdad: The Border Ports Authority has issued a series of recommendations to enhance control at border crossings in preparation for the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the sixth meeting of the year was chaired by Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, Chairman of the Border Ports Authority, and attended by council members. Al-Waeli reviewed the operational status of land, sea, and air ports, emphasizing alignment with federal directives to combat corruption, protect the national economy, and facilitate trade.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to directives from the Office of the Prime Minister, stressing the importance of National Security Service and Intelligence Service officers at inspection areas and trade exchange points. The council also endorsed forming a joint committee with representatives from the Kurdistan Region to inspect and close unofficial crossings in governorates.
In preparation for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, the council plans to mobilize personnel from various ministries to support the pilgrimage plan. This includes coordination with local governments to ensure smooth entry for pilgrims by maintaining service and health facilities at all border crossings.
Decisions were made to obligate the General Company for Iraqi Ports to prevent unauthorized passage and hold accountable those responsible for any security breaches. The council concluded by issuing recommendations and decisions to be implemented at all border crossings, with a focus on monitoring and periodic performance evaluation.
