Reconstruction and Development Coalition Reaffirms Backing for Anti-Corruption Measures


Baghdad: The Reconstruction and Development Coalition has reiterated its support for the governmental and judicial measures taken by the competent authorities in combating administrative and financial corruption.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by the coalition indicated that an expanded meeting was held today, chaired by the coalition’s head, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. The meeting addressed the latest political developments and the general situation in the country, in addition to discussing the organizational matters of the parliamentary bloc.



The statement added that the meeting approved the internal regulations of the parliamentary bloc and elected a head, two deputy heads, a rapporteur, and an official spokesperson. This, the statement continued, will enhance the efficiency of parliamentary work, strengthen institutional performance, and contribute to developing decision-making mechanisms.



The statement concluded by affirming that, based on its national and constitutional responsibilities, the Reconstruction and Development Coalition is committed to proceeding with the legislation of the package of laws submitted by its parliamentary bloc. It will work to pass priority legislation that directly impacts citizens’ lives, contributes to bolstering economic development, improves the level of services, and consolidates social stability, in accordance with the requirements of the current phase and the aspirations of the Iraqi people.



The coalition reiterated its support for the governmental and judicial measures taken by the relevant authorities to combat administrative and financial corruption, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and the law, and in a manner that strengthens the rule of law, preserves the independence of the judiciary, enshrines the principle of accountability, and ensures the achievement of justice free from any politicization, selectivity, or discrimination.



Moreover, the coalition affirmed its support for the state’s monopoly on the use of force, the strengthening of the authority of constitutional institutions, the consolidation of the rule of law, adherence to independent national decision-making, and working to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil, thereby achieving full state sovereignty over its land, airspace, and territorial waters, in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws.



The Reconstruction and Development Coalition also affirmed its continued commitment to fulfilling its national responsibilities by supporting its parliamentary bloc in carrying out its legislative and oversight roles, and working with all national forces to strengthen state institutions, consolidate stability, and continue the path of reform, construction, and reconstruction, in a way that fulfills the aspirations of citizens and serves the country’s best interests.
