Al-faw: The mayor of Al-Faw district, Walid Al-Sharifi, has urged relevant authorities to quickly address the case of Iraqi fishermen detained by the Kuwaiti coast guard. Al-Sharifi stressed the need for immediate measures to be taken to resolve the situation involving the detained fishermen from the southern Basra district.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sharifi mentioned that Basra’s governor, Asaad Al-Eidani, is actively coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to gather updates on the detention incident. The Kuwaiti coast guard detained several Iraqi fishermen, and there is a concerted effort to understand the current status of these individuals.
Al-Sharifi highlighted that local authorities have yet to receive any details regarding the five fishermen’s status. He pointed out the humanitarian aspects of the case, emphasizing the urgency of ensuring the fishermen’s rights are protected within a legal context. The detained fishermen were reportedly fired upon by the Kuwaiti coast guard in a maritime area two days prior, with their fate still uncertain.
