Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has declared that there are no red lines in the government’s mission to safeguard public funds, emphasizing that no exceptions will be made for individuals implicated in corruption.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a recent interview with Al-Arabiya channel, Prime Minister al-Zaidi stressed the government’s unwavering commitment to pursuing those accused of corruption. He acknowledged that reactions from those affected by the government’s legal actions have been forthcoming, noting their displeasure with the measures being implemented. Al-Zaidi emphasized that the government adopts a non-selective approach in handling corruption cases, treating them strictly as criminal matters, devoid of any sectarian, national, or other affiliations.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the only recourse for those involved in corruption is to return the embezzled funds, as these belong to the Iraqi people. He highlighted the strong cooperation between the government and the judiciary, with a united aim to recover the people’s money and safeguard their rights.
Al-Zaidi further elaborated on the government’s dialogues with various factions, noting that future efforts would transition towards political and social spheres. He assured that subsequent to the deadline, the exclusive control of weapons would be vested in official state institutions and its security forces.
Addressing economic matters, the Prime Minister attributed the delay in dollar shipments to regional obstacles and disruptions in air traffic. However, he confirmed that with the stabilization of circumstances, cash payments have resumed as per the previously established schedule.
He also announced forthcoming political cooperation and an economic partnership between Iraq and the United States, underscoring Iraq’s continuous efforts to facilitate rapprochement between the United States and Iran.
