Amnesty International Urges Immediate Arms Embargo on Israel

Beirut: Amnesty International has issued a call for an immediate and comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, emphasizing that continued impunity may perpetuate further violations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the organization released a report on its official website detailing the impact of three Israeli airstrikes on civilian homes in southern Lebanon last March. These strikes resulted in the deaths of 24 civilians, including 12 children, and devastated entire families. Amnesty International has categorized these attacks as warranting investigation as potential war crimes.

The report highlights that Amnesty International conducted a thorough investigation into the airstrikes targeting homes in the Tyre and Nabatieh regions, as well as the village of Erkay, on March 6, 12, and 13. These strikes also left at least 18 people injured.

Christine Beckerle, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, has called upon the international community to enforce a comprehensive and immediate arms embargo on Israel. She also emphasized the necessity of holding those responsible for the attacks accountable, cautioning that a lack of accountability could lead to further violations.
