Baghdad: The United Nations Population Fund Representative (UNFPA), Hind Jalal, confirmed on Monday that the Demographic Transition Project in Iraq has reached its conclusion. This initiative primarily focused on empowering national institutions to enhance their capabilities in implementing evidence-based policies.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Jalal stated that the projects significantly contributed to the 2024 General Population Census and all studies and efforts aimed at facilitating investment in policy development. The project, spanning five years, was executed in strategic partnership with the Iraqi Federal Government, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and civil society organizations from 2021 to 2026.
Jalal explained that since the project's inception, the focus has been on empowering national institutions, developing information systems, and investing in areas such as reproductive health, family planning, and the rights of women and girls. These efforts are expected to have a significant impact on Iraq's future, fostering an inclusive and sustainable environment.
Jalal emphasized that the achievements were the result of collaboration between strategic partners and civil society organizations. She expressed confidence that the outcomes of the project would positively influence Iraq in the coming years. Furthermore, UNFPA plans to continue its work in Iraq with future projects already in the pipeline, involving new partners for each initiative.
