According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by the Presidency's Media Office revealed that President Amedi received Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid at Baghdad Palace on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The meeting focused on reviewing the current environmental situation in Iraq and the significant challenges facing the sector.
The president emphasized the evolution of environmental issues from being merely a public service concern to a sovereign national priority. He highlighted the necessity for partnership among all state institutions, alongside the development of integrated national policies and programs to enhance the effectiveness of addressing environmental and climate-related challenges.
Minister Abdul Wahid presented the ministry's key programs and ongoing projects during the meeting. She also described the measures being implemented to reduce pollution, strengthen environmental oversight, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
