Baghdad: Secretary-General of the Badr Organization Hadi Al-Amiri emphasized on Tuesday that the management of arms control within Iraq is an issue to be determined solely by Iraqis.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Amiri issued a statement urging all involved parties to approach the matter with moderation and conciliation, steering clear of actions that may escalate tensions. He emphasized the necessity of upholding the elements that contribute to Iraq’s strength and resilience, aiming for a sovereign and dignified nation. Al-Amiri called for rejection of any approach that could foster division or exacerbate disputes.
He further urged all parties to prioritize Iraq’s national interest through a comprehensive vision, sound judgment, and a genuine dedication to ensuring the country’s security. He highlighted the need for integration across all state components, including the executive, legislative, judicial, and security institutions.
Al-Amiri expressed confidence in the intentions and judgment of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and the resistance members, trusting their commitment to national interests. He also cautioned against hasty or provocative measures, hoping that all parties would refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and avoid misjudgments or inaccurate assessments.
Addressing the ‘issue of placing weapons under state control,’ Al-Amiri called for a national responsibility-driven approach, warning against allowing external parties to interfere with Iraq’s sovereignty. He reiterated that decisions regarding arms control must be made by Iraqis, underscoring their capability to manage such matters efficiently.
Al-Amiri concluded by asserting that the legitimacy of any weapon lies in its service to national interests, a determination to be made collectively by Iraq’s national actors. This approach, he noted, should reinforce Iraq’s security through complete sovereignty, independent decision-making, and a unified national stance.
