Sulaimaniyah: UNESCO launched the second phase of its initiative to establish the Civil Alliance for Social Communication in Iraq in Sulaimaniyah on Thursday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the organization announced, “The second phase of establishing the Civil Alliance for Social Communication in Iraq was launched with the participation of more than 35 stakeholders from civil society organizations, media outlets, content creators, influencers, and activists, in an intensive two-day workshop hosted by the city of Sulaimaniyah.”

The organization further noted that the workshop was organized as part of the ‘Social Communication for Peace’ project, implemented by UNESCO with funding from the European Union. This effort marks the beginning of the second phase of establishing the alliance, focusing on discussions about organizational frameworks and operational mechanisms necessary for its establishment in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The workshop concluded with the signing of a letter of intent by most participants, demonstrating a collective commitment to creating a specialized civil framework. This framework aims to monitor narratives on social media platforms, track harmful content, review digital platform policies related to content modification, blocking, and digital filtering, and advocate for more transparent and equitable practices in managing the digital space.
