Baghdad:A high-level government delegation from the Kurdistan Region will visit Baghdad tomorrow, Wednesday, to continue discussions with the federal government regarding the Region’s obligations, rights, and financial entitlements within the 2027 federal general budget.
According to the Iraqi News Agency, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Department of Media and Information announced that the delegation includes the Head of the Council of Ministers’ Diwan, the Secretary of the Council of Ministers, the Head of the Coordination and Follow-up Department, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, along with the Directors General of Budget and Accounting from the Region’s Ministry of Finance and Economy, and a representative from the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with the federal Ministry of Finance to discuss the Region’s financial and oil-related obligations and to reach a mutual understanding regarding its rights and financial entitlements in next year’s budget. The statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government affirms that the KRG has fulfilled its financial and oil-related obligations toward the federal government and will continue to implement these commitments throughout 2027, ensuring that the Region’s financial rights are neither delayed, suspended, nor reduced.
Discussions will also cover salaries and entitlements of employees, Peshmerga and internal security forces, retirees, political prisoners, families of martyrs, and social welfare beneficiaries. They will address staffing schedules, job grades, operational expenses, investment projects, sovereign expenditures, and mandatory expenditures. Additionally, the delegation will examine mechanisms to legally enshrine the Region’s financial rights and entitlements within the 2027 federal budget law, ensuring parity between the Region’s citizens and employees and their counterparts in the rest of Iraq.
