Kurdistan Delegation Travels to Baghdad for 2027 Budget Talks

Baghdad:A high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is set to visit Baghdad to negotiate the Region’s financial entitlements in the 2027 federal budget.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation comprises officials from the KRG’s Council of Ministers, the ministries of Finance and Natural Resources, and a representative from the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. They are scheduled to engage in discussions with the federal Ministry of Finance to address financial and oil-related obligations, as well as the Region’s rights.

The discussions will cover the salaries for civil servants, Peshmerga forces, security personnel, retirees, and social protection beneficiaries, along with operational and investment expenditures and other entitlements. The KRG is focusing on ensuring that its entitlements are clearly and legally defined within the 2027 budget. They emphasize the need for a fixed mechanism for disbursement, insisting that salaries and essential entitlements should not be affected by ‘actual spending’ criteria or any restrictions that might cause delays or reductions.
