Wasit:An Asian national has been arrested by the Wasit Directorate of Narcotics Affairs for possessing 12 kilograms of opium.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the operation began outside of Iraq’s borders as personnel from the Wasit Directorate infiltrated a smuggling network in a neighboring country. They tracked the shipment’s route and monitored the movements of one of its members through sustained intelligence efforts until he entered Iraqi territory.

Once the shipment was inside the country, the directorate set up a carefully planned ambush resulting in the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of the opium. Narcotics officers intercepted the shipment before it could reach its intended destination, and necessary legal measures have been taken against the suspect.
