Al-Shib:An attempt to smuggle over 48 million counterfeit Iraqi dinars into the country was thwarted by the Border Ports Authority at the Al-Shib border crossing.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the operation was a specialized effort combining precise field inspection with intelligence work. The Al-Shib Border Crossing Directorate discovered 48,500,000 Iraqi dinars in counterfeit currency in the possession of foreign nationals.
The counterfeit money was detected by a member of the Border Ports Authority using a sonar device in the Technical Division. The detection occurred while examining travelers in the arrivals hall, in cooperation with the Customs Police and Civil Customs.
The investigating judge at Al-Mashrah Court was notified, and a judicial order was secured in coordination with the Intelligence Directorate and the Falcons Intelligence Cell. This led to the arrest of a third individual who was supposed to receive the funds within Iraqi territory. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him, and his case has been linked to the ongoing investigation at the Al-Shib border crossing.
