Al-Shib:The Border Ports Commission has announced the disruption of an attempt to smuggle over 48 million counterfeit Iraqi dinars into the country through the Al-Shib border crossing.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission revealed that the operation combined precise field inspection with intelligence efforts, leading to the discovery of 48,500,000 counterfeit Iraqi dinars. These were found in the possession of foreign nationals.
The counterfeit money was detected by a staff member of the Border Ports Commission’s Technical Division using an X-ray scanner. The money was concealed inside travel bags and identified during the screening of passengers in the arrival hall, in cooperation with Customs Police and civilian customs personnel.
Following the discovery, the investigating judge at Al-Mashrah Court was notified, and a judicial order was secured in coordination with the Intelligence Directorate and the Falcons Intelligence Cell. This led to the identification of a third person involved in the operation, who was tasked with receiving the money within Iraqi territory. Legal action is being pursued against this individual, with his case file attached to the formal proceedings initiated at the Al-Shib crossing.
